420 Zoom Portraits
Thank you for sharing your story and agreeing to have your portrait taken. This project is intended to be part of both a healing process and an awareness campaign in support of changing failed policy. Your personal story will go a long way toward both goals.
This page is intended to answer all your questions and help you be all set for the shoot.
What your portrait will look like
We want to replicate the look of our in-person portraits as closely as possible. Below are some reference photos from our shoot with Cindy De La Vega.
How the call will work
We’ll arrange a day and time that works best for you and then schedule a Zoom meeting. If you don’t have Zoom no problem, all you’ll need to do is click the meeting link we’ll send. Joe Budd, our resident 420 Portraits photographer, will guide you through the shoot. The shoot will last a maximum of 30 minutes.
What technology you’ll need
So you can most easily move around and position yourself, please join the meeting by phone (not laptop of desktop). If you have have a phone with a working camera, just make sure you clean the lens and you’re all set.
Where you should be
Think about somewhere in your space with a plain, single-color background (ideally white). We want the focus to be on you, not what’s behind you. With that said, don’t worry. The beauty of having a phone is that it’s easy to move around, and we’re happy to do a quick virtual tour of your space to find the best possible spot.
What you should wear
General guidance is to avoid busy, repeating patterns (thin stripes, small checks, etc) as they can come across blurry on camera. But most importantly, wear what you think represents you best—there’s no need to “dress up” beyond what helps you feel good.
